Previously I used this blog as my own, independently run book review site.  I haven't been on here in forever and a day since I started working on the That Nerd Show website as a book and movie reviewer (, however for English class we are working on a project called Genius Hour and it is required of me to blog about what I'm learning during this project.  Instead of getting a new blog I decided it would be wisest to use this blog and turn it into something completely new for the next 9 weeks.  If you are still interested in reading my book and movie reviews though, you can always check out my blog at That Nerd Show.

So what is Genius Hour you may ask?? Genius Hour takes place during the last 9 weeks of school and basically it allows us to explore any appropriate subject we want to know about.  That could be learning to play an instrument to learning how to dance to studying astrophysics.  During the journey of learning about whatever it is we choose to learn about, we are having to document the process on a blog.  At the end of the 9 weeks we present to our class all our research and knowledge we gained from this experience.

It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to study during Genius Hour.  I had ideas such as, Fine Arts Therapy, studying dogs and cats, diving into the world of Disney, and an assortment of other interesting subjects. But I struggled with wanting to do something extremely original that no one had thought of doing yet. I also wanted to do something interactive that involved outside people and was challenging.

In order to begin our process for this project our teacher encourages us to choose a driving question.....

After excessive thought, that's caused me rather a lot of stress (thank you school for always managing to succeed in stressing me out in some way), I have chosen my driving question to be:

What is Love?

Over the next couple of weeks I will be researching the scientific explanations for love, what love is to people, why humans make decisions based on love, what it does to a person, and the good and bad effects and outcomes of it.

  1. A worthy topic! I once wrote a research paper in college on the biochemical basis for romantic love. I was afraid I wouldn't find much in the research on it, but I was surprised by how many psychologists had made it their life study. Very interested to see what you learn!
